Praised by SPIN Magazine as bringing the “avant-garde element to Detroit techno,” 26-year old Altstadt Echo has made an immediate impact on the American techno scene in his early years. After performing at the Movement Electronic Music Festival in 2014, Altstadt launched his own experimental techno label Modern Cathedrals, announced by Resident Advisor with a front-page feature article. In addition to having his original works remixed by legendary techno artists such as Terrence Dixon, Donor, and Jeff Derringer, he’s shared the stage with notable figures such as Regis, Silent Servant, Vatican Shadow, Rodhad, Luke Slater, and more. But he hasn’t limited himself to production and performance; over the last two years, he’s organized an astounding sixteen events in the Detroit area (three of which were given the distinction of being Official Movement afterparties) featuring headliners ranging from Rrose to Shifted. Further branching out, Altstadt Echo is the founder of techno-focused web magazine Dub Monitor, which has served as a platform for interviews with artists including Speedy J, Lucy, Oscar Mulero, and more. In 2015, he looks forward to releasing two additional EPs on his own label (in vinyl and digital formats) and performing at the Great American Techno Festival in Colorado.
